Al articulista, Jeff Turrentine, le parece que Auster se ha relajado un poquito<em>: &#8220;The Brooklyn Follies<\/em> is a welcome sign that Auster, whose fictional universe can too often seem mechanistic and overdetermined, is finally relaxing a little&#8221;, dice exactamente. Arranca su art\u00edculo con una curiosa an\u00e9cdota, que uno no sabe diferenciar ap\u00f3crifa o no. Dice que &#8220;no s\u00e9 si todav\u00eda ocurre, pero las librer\u00edas de las ciudades universitarias sol\u00edan colocar las novelas de Auster detr\u00e1s del mostrador, lejos del alcance de los clientes&#8221;. Al parecer, seg\u00fan explica Turrentine, los relatos austerianos, sobre todo m\u00e1s tempranos (la trilog\u00eda, La M\u00fasica del Azar, El Palacio de la Luna) estaban entre los ejemplares m\u00e1s codiciados por los universitarios sin blanca y por tanto entre los m\u00e1s robados.
