\nAcabo de escuchar Outlaw Pete<\/a>, el primer corte del nuevo \u00e1lbum de Bruce Springsteen, Working on a dream, a la venta el 27 de este mes. Es un tema largo, con intro basada en un acompa\u00f1amiento de cuerda y con ecos del trabajo de homenaje a Seeger, algunos arreglos vaqueros y cierta \u00e9pica. Es la historia de un forajido del salvaje oeste, pero no creo que vaya a funcionar en directo. Se va hasta los ocho minutos, la canci\u00f3n m\u00e1s larga del \u00e1lbum y el tema de estudio m\u00e1s largo m\u00e1s larga grabada por Springsteen desde principios de los 80. Lo cual me gusta, por lo que tiene de declaraci\u00f3n de intenciones. Atentos al final, \u00e9pica como anta\u00f1o.<\/p>\n

La historia, sin estribillos:
\nHe was born a little baby on the Appalachian Trail<\/span>
\nAt six months old he’d done three months in jail<\/span>
\nHe robbed a bank in his diapers and his little bare baby feet<\/span>
\nAll he said was “Folks, my name is Outlaw Pete.”<\/span><\/p>\n

At twenty-five a Mustang pony he did steal<\/span>
\nAnd he rode her around and ’round on heaven’s wheel<\/span>
\nFather Jesus, I’m an outlaw killer and a thief<\/span>
\nAnd I slow down only to sow my grief<\/span> <\/p>\n

He cut his trail of tears across the countryside<\/span>
\nAnd where he went, women wept and men died<\/span>
\n
\nOne night he woke from a vision of his own death<\/span>
\nSaddled his pony and rode her deep into the West<\/span>
\nMarried a Navajo girl and settled down on the res<\/span>
\nAnd as the snow fell he held that beautiful daughter to his chest<\/span> <\/p>\n

Out of the East on an Irish stallion came Bounty Hunter Dan<\/span>
\nHis heart quickened and burned by the need to get his man<\/span>
\nHe found Pete peacefully fishing by the river, pulled his gun and got the drop<\/span>
\nHe said, “Pete, you think you’ve changed, but you have not.”<\/p>\n

<\/span>He cocked his pistol, pulled the trigger and shouted “let it start”<\/span>
\nPete drew a knife from his boot, threw it, and pierced Dan through the heart<\/span>
\nDan smiled as he laid in his own blood dying in the sun<\/span>
\nAnd whispered in Pete’s ear, “We cannot undo these things we’ve done.”<\/span><\/p>\n

For forty days and nights Pete rode and did not stop<\/span>
\nTill he sat high upon an icy mountain top<\/span>
\nHe watched the hawk on a desert updraft slip and slide<\/span>
\nMoved to the edge and dug his spurs deep into his pony side<\/span> <\/p>\n

Some say Pete and his pony vanished over the edge<\/span>
\n Some say they remain frozen high upon that icy ledge<\/span>
\nThe young Navajo girl washes in the river, skin so fair<\/span>
